FAQ: Outlook Express Setup
Email Account Setup - Outlook Express
These directions should work for most recent Microsoft Outlook Express versions, running on Microsoft Windows 98 and later.
    
Step By Step Connection Help
  1. Launch Outlook Express
     
  2. Under "Tools" select "accounts..."
     
  3. Select the "mail" tab.
     
  4. If there are no accounts present, Please go to the next section of this FAQ called Connection Wizard.
     
  5. If there is already an account that you want to change to a new email address, continue reading this section
     
  6. Select the account by single-clicking on it.
     
  7. Click the "Properties" button.
     
  8. Under Mail Account, type in the name you would like to refer to this account by.
     
  9. Name: The name you would like displayed (i.e. John Doe or ACME Sales)
     
  10. Email address: you@yourDomainName.com (i.e. john@JohnDoe.com or sales@acme.com)
     
  11. Click the "Servers" tab and input these settings:
     
  12. Incoming email server type: POP (not IMAP)
     
  13. Incoming mail (POP) server: mail.yourDomainName.com (i.e. mail.JohnDoe.com or mail.acme.com)
     
  14. Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.yourDomainName.com (i.e. mail.JohnDoe.com or mail.acme.com)
     
  15. Account ID: Your full email address: you@yourDomainName.com (i.e. john@JohnDoe.com or sales@acme.com)
     
  16. Password: Enter the password set for your account, it is case sensitive.
     
  17. Check the "My server requires authentication" box and click the "settings" button.
    Make sure the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" radio button is selected.
     
  18. Click "OK",
     
  19. Press "OK"
     
  20. Press "Close"
Adding a New Email Account With The Connection Wizzard
  1. From the "Mail" tab, click on the "add..." button, and select "Mail".
     
  2. Select the "mail" tab.
     
  3. Input these settings:
     
  4. Display Name: Your name (i.e. John Doe or ACME Sales)
     
  5. Email address: you@yourDomainName.com (i.e. john@JohnDoe.com or sales@acme.com)
     
  6. Incoming email server type: POP (not IMAP)
     
  7. Incoming mail (POP) server: mail.yourDomainName.com (i.e. mail.JohnDoe.com or mail.acme.com)
     
  8. Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.yourDomainName.com (i.e. mail.JohnDoe.com or mail.acme.com)
     
  9. Account ID: Your full email address: you@yourDomainName.com (i.e. john@JohnDoe.com or sales@acme.com)
     
  10. Password: Enter the password set for your account, it is case sensitive.
     
  11. Account Name: Enter what you would like to identify this account (i.e. thedoes.com, acme.com)
     
  12. Outgoing mail server authentication is required. Same settings as above for incoming mail server (POP).
     
  13. Click "Finish".
